CAT GROOMING

At Millie's Paws we offer full cat grooming services. We have attended various courses to gain the knowledge to groom cats and have been grooming cats since 2015. The highest studies we have undergone are through the National Cat Grooming Institute of America. The NCGI's syllabus covers topics including elderly cats, safety when grooming cats, health conditions in cats, removal of matting, correct grooming of a variety of breeds & in depth studies on coat colours & genetics. We pride ourselves on being able to cater for many breeds & coat types of cats & provide a full service including removal of dead hair, removal of mats, bath, dry & brushout, lion trims, clip offs, nail trimming & cleaning around eyes & ears.

Some of the benefits of cat grooming include your animal's health and well-being. Your cat's hair can easily get tangled and matted from greasy skin, which can be uncomfortable or even painful. With regular cat grooming, you can keep your cats fur clean, brushed and trimmed to a healthy length, which helps to keep mats away. Cat grooming is also beneficial to owners as cats lick themselves, this saliva can cause some owners to experience allergies. Regular bathing & grooming at a groomers can help reduce this. Bathing removes saliva & dirt on your cats hair & skin, & prevents the cat from getting this on your home furniture, carpets etc.

We recommend cats follow a regular grooming schedule which includes a bath, brushout/clip off, dead hair removal, face/ears/eyes clean, to keep matting to a minimum & allow us to keep on top of trapped, dirty, dead hair, whether short of long coated. Cats who are quite aggressive at the groomers should follow a regular grooming schedule so there is not extensive work required each session.

Cat grooming sessions can take 2 to 3 hours. We take a full payment in advance. We require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or change the appointment as a full cancellation fee is applicable. If another appointment is required to complete the groom you will need to book another time/day & a full appointment fee will be applicable & payable in advance. In extreme cases we may not be able to complete the groom depending on temperament, we would then advise you make an appointment with your veterinary practice to discuss sedation. An appointment fee will still be applicable due to booking out time.

We always recommend you keep your cat in the night before their appointment. Our prices are reflective of our 1  to 1 service & our skill set. Please be realistic before booking your cat in for a grooming appointment. Age, temperament & health should always be considered before booking an appointment.

All our prices include a bath, where the cat does not have any underlying health problems or are senior. We do not discount for not including a bath as we can not achieve the best overall finish & the work is increasingly harder. By bathing & drying a cat, this allows alot of trapped dirt & hair to be removed more effectively. Trying to brushout & remove dead hair & dander from a dirty coat is not very beneficial. The grease & dirt hold onto the dead coat & we can not offer the same standard of quality that we can when we clean the coat. We can not groom a dog without washing out the dirt/oil/grease/dry skin & drying/removing dead hair, this is the same for cats. Even if we are shaving off the cats coat it is recommended they are bathed & dried as again, the finish will not look clean & tidy & the skin will still be dirty & greasy.

Typically an aggressive cat will react to being clipped & bathed, therefore it is advisable to create a regular bath & brushout schedule for these temperaments so we can avoid mats & the use of clipping.

I will always be very honest when grooming cats so as to manage the owners expectations. It unfortunately is not like grooming a dog where you can stand them on a table using equipment to keep them where you need them! If your cat becomes to challenging I will have to stop the groom & unfortunately this can result in a half groomed cat.

Cats will try to jump off the table, hide, & fight! If your cat is senior or has underlying health conditions then this may require that I stop the groom as this can quickly become life threatening. If your cat starts to pant, again, I will stop the groom as this is life threatening.

THE COST IS FOR THE APPOINTMENT, IF WE CAN NOT COMPLETE YOUR CAT WE DO NOT REFUND. WE WILL CHARGE EXTRA FOR AGGRESSIVE/DIFFICULT CATS. MATTED CATS OR CATS WITH FLEAS WILL INCUR AN EXTRA CHARGE.
